Master Repeater

There are some things about my boyfriend that make me laugh every time.
One time I noticed that he was playing a CD of 'No Fun At All' time after time, singing along quite enthusiastic. I got really irritated because of the music (and his singing), so I began to focus on the lyrics to figure out what was bothering me and what got me so worked up. It became clear quite fast. They're always repeating their lyrics, not only the chorus, but sometimes sentences or words too. I couldn't believe a band with such shitty lyrics could be so loved. I get so frustrated that I can't help but laugh every time! And now we laugh every time he sings along with music in repeat.

Amsterdam

We went for a trip to Amsterdam yesterday.
My boyfriend had tickets to a concert of Good Riddance so we went for a day out.
He had a few stops planned out. He wanted to go and take a look at the fixies from Pristine and he wanted to go to Cut Throat Barber to trim his 'beard' and cut his hair in a retro way.
The barber was a guy from New Zealand who's dad was Dutch, so he ended up in Amsterdam to open his shop. My boyfriend wanted to give him carte blanche, but I said he could go a little Ryan Gosling (jumjum).
His beard wasn't hard work, James the barber just had to groom it and it looked a whoooole lot better and sexy. Now I have my own black haired Ryan in the house. Damn.

After the barber we went for some pancakes at Pancakes! Amsterdam and for a stroll around  De 9 Straatjes. A very nice and cozy neighborhood with small shops where I bought a nice black & white vest at By Fabrio for 35 euros.
My boyfriend was looking for a shop where they had Haglöfs jackets and found one on the internet that was very nearby. At least, that's what he said. We had to go for a looooong walk to the 'suburbs' of the city. He didn't buy a thing at the shop, by the way.
After our town walk, where I grew butt muscles like you wouldn't believe, we went for dinner at Royal Thai, nearby De Melkweg, where we needed to be for the concert.
After the concert we went for a frozen yogurt at Frozz with some friends we went to the concert with.

My picture of Amsterdam: A hip and fancy city, quite cozy with all the canals and little bridges and people are very friendly.
What I noticed though, was that Amsterdam is often dirty. Shopkeepers don't bother to clean their shop every day, many restaurants look quite old and dirty on the outside, you can already smell public lavatories from miles away and garbage bags are lying on the street, teared apart. If you can look past these little things and open up for the warmth Amsterdam gives you when you talk to the people you will see that it has a lot to offer.

I had a really fun day with my Ryan Gosling and I will certainly visit Amsterdam again.
As I told you before, I love The Netherlands, and there are many cities yet to explore.
I'll keep you posted on my travel guide around The Netherlands.

Kate Nash

Do you know Kate Nash and her music?
She's not that good of a singer, but she's always telling stories that make me laugh. If you don't know her, you should definitely check her out!

Here's one of my favourite songs:

Kate Nash - Birds

CD

In my new car, I only have two CD's lying around. Time for some change. I'm going through my 'collection' now, which is quite nostalgic. A couple of local bands I haven't played in a long while deserve my full attention again. I wonder if I still know the lyrics...
And by the way: CD's are still in style!

Songs That Make Me Cry

I heard a French song, ages ago, and I forgot the lines to look it up on Youtube. This song made me cry instantly! I thought it was beautiful, because the women wasn't actually singing. It's a mix of singing and talking with a hoarse women's voice. Very soft and sentimental. If you know a bit of French, you can relate to it.
A couple of months later, I heard it again and I had to cry again, so I wrote it down: "Tu m'aimes encore", but I could only find songs of Céline Dion, until now!

It's a song from Carla Bruni, "Quelq'un m'a dit".
Just listen, it's beautiful! Your body will tingle and the song will rest there for hours.

Some other songs that can make me cry in an instant:
Feel free to share yours too!

Paul McCartney - This Never Happened Before
When I heared this song on the radio, I was driving my car. I had to pull over, because my mascara hurt my eyes.

Tom Waits - Martha
This song brings back a lot of memories.
I have no words for it. It goes right to the heart.

Mumford & Sons - Lover of the Light
There's this part with the banjo that lifts you up. For some reason it makes me think of a cult that worships the sun with their hands in the air, but it works on my cry-mood in a way.

Frans Bauer

My boyfriend needed a new pair of running shoes, so we drove to a specialised shop in Hasselt.
On our way back home, we saw this car:

Frans Bauer is a Dutch "Schlager" singer and very famous around here.
This person must be Bauer's biggest fan ever!

The Goodluck Party

Today was a very good day!
I went shopping and got home with a summer pants from CKS. It's made from a very light fabric and therefore very ideal for our trip to Thailand!

Now we're at a concert. The Goodluck Party opened the evening and they were really good. You can check their Facebookpage!
