Looking Forward to Tomorrow

Today was just a regular day, but tomorrow is a holiday. Belgium Labor Day, hooray!
For all hard working people, like me :-)!

We have a family diner to go to and afterwards, it's chillin' time! 

Tough Cookie

I wasn't feeling so well today at work. I think my lack of sleep from the past few weeks and the past weekend has something to do with it...
But I went spinning anyway! HUUUUUOOEEH! Tough, huh?!

Normally, I award myself with a cookie, but today I'm extra tough and skip those extra calories this time.

Road Kill

I just removed a dead cat from the road.

I hate it when cars run animals over and the drivers don't clean up their mess!

This is the second time I stop to bring a dead cat to the side of the road. I only do this when the animal is not all smashed apart, obviously. I bring the animal safely to the side of the road and then I check if it's still alive. If it would be alive, I would rush it to the vet...

The first time I did this, the cat was all stiff, so it was dead for a while. Today, the cat was still warm, so the accident happened not so long before I passed by, but he was dead. Poor kitty!

I think you're wondering why I'm so crazy to do this?

Just stop and think about how you would react when you saw your favourite pet sticking to the road, right in front of your doorstep. Wouldn't you wish that the driver went through the trouble of bringing your pet to the side of the road, so that other cars won't run it over time after time? I prefer a body to bury... 

Most pets are part of the family, so I always hit the brakes when an animal crosses the street!

Weekend Work Trip Part 2

I am having a blast on adventure weekend! Who would have thought?!
I woke up with a bit of a headache this morning. I had a bit too much to drink yesterday night. Normally, I'm not that much of a drinker, but yesterday night was such fun!

Today I went death riding! I never thought I would do this! What a kick! I went down, screaming like a kid!

Another super fun day! Tomorrow it's homewards!

Weekend Work Trip Part 1

I'm on a two day trip with work. It's an adventure weekend in Durbuy. 

Like I told you in one of my previous blog posts, I'm not the adventurous type. But I have to get out of my comfort zone and get adventurous! And so I did today.

The first activity on the agenda was a challenger track. We had to get from one point to another with our ropes and snap links. 

I have a fear of heights, so the word 'challenger' fits right into place. 

I was totally freaking out at the first track (high above the ground), but I did it anyway (with a few fear-tears)!

I'm so proud of myself!

The second track was easier and not high at all.

The second activity was a laser battle. 

I was on the blue team and we totally rocked this game!

Romantic Sushi Diner

We've hardly seen each other all week, so I prepared a romantic diner.
It was time to test my sushi skills again.

Fat Kitty

I went to the vet with my fat old kitty today.
She's 18 years old and in 2010 she weighed 8,2 kilos. Quite the kittycat, huh?!

When I started my studies as a vet nurse, I decided to put her on a diet and make sure my other cats got premium food too. My parents went crazy if I told them. Like every other pet owner, they were convinced that supermarket food was so much cheaper than premiums. But nothing could be further from the truth!
When you are giving your pet a premium food, like Hills or Royal Canin, it's more likely you have to give a smaller portion than you did with your 'cheaper' pet food brand. Can't follow?
Well, premiums are balanced nutritions. This means, that all the minerals, vitamins and other stuff that your pet really needs, is perfectly present in that pet food. Nothing less, nothing more. Moreover! When you analyse various samples of different lots, the composition will be almost exactly the same. The advantage of this perfectly balanced food, is that there will be a lesser chance of food intolerance, diseases and other health problems.
To give you an example: Salt and sugar, is used in excessive amounts in cheaper foods for flavouring. Pets' bodies need these substances, like any other body. But in a bigger quantity than needed, these substances are dangerous for our health and therefore for your pet too. Too much salt will result in kidney problems and sugar will result in overweight. Giving your pet cheaper foods is like when you would go to Mc. D. every day. We all know how those people turn up, we all watch reality TV...
To come to the point: You will give a smaller amount of your premium food than your supermarket food, because your pet needs less portions to take in the same amount of nutrients. Your bag of supermarket food will be empty sooner than the premiums bag. In the end you will pay somewhere around the same amount of money for both. But with the premium pet food, they will eat less sugar and salt and will live a longer and healthier life. More time to cuddle!

So far for my conviction.
Back to MY fat cat! Eventually I convinced my parents to start the diet. We're feeding her Hills RD for three years now. This is a special prescription diet food to lose weight. It contains all the necessary nutrients and a great amount of high fibres to 'fill up the stomach'. She will stop eating because she's full.
Today she weighed 5,8 kilos. A good result, but it's taking to long for her to lose weight. My parents feed our cats at the same time and don't care if she eats from our other cat's food. Not good, but still, she's losing weight and that's the most important!

Quote from the vet: "She looks very good for the age of 18 and she's doing very well!"
Effort pays off!

Last tips for your favourite pet:

• Give them dry pet food, not canned food. It's better for their teeth. Eating dry food is like brushing teeth for them.
• A bag of 'Premium Food' at the supermarket doesn't mean it's a balanced nutrition. Go to your vet or specialised pet store for more information.
  Some special ranges of pet food are only available at the vet.

We didn't always shared the same thoughts, but I think he was a really good colleague and I feel with him right now.
I wish him all the best and I hope he will find a new job very soon!

Encouraging Words

I was going through my blogposts and I noticed I'm doing quite well. Only one small slip-up where I overslept to write a post. I punished myself well for that one!

If I must say, I'm quite surprised people actually read my blog! I know I have to stay positive, but it's still beyond my expectations. Moreover, not only my Belgian friends read my 'diary', but my few international ones too, so I'm pretty stoked about that! My effort to write in English pays off!
A few people I know came up to me to say they were following my daily challenge and that they thought it was a very good idea and fun to read. I was stunned and flattered about their compliments!

If you have any compliments or comments about a post or about my challenge, do share them! It's not always easy to find something to write about, so encouraging words are more than welcome on these days!

My Larelle Order

My Larelle products arrived today!

I bought a little handbag, because my other one's worn off. The Mademoiselle M3 is very handy, because you can use it in three different ways. You can use it with a long or short strap or you can remove the strap and wear it as a clutch. 
I chose a blue Mademoiselle and it comes with a lovely bright blue flower lining! Sweet! 

The other product I ordered is something similar as my 'Kersepitje'. It's my new foot warmer, because I always have cold feet at night. I will try it out now!

Kindergarten Love

I found a very very very old friend on Facebook today. 
My best friend/ first 'boyfriend' from kindergarten, actually. I don't remember very much from when I was that age, but my grandmother told me lots of stories about how we played and laughed together and how he put a band aid on my wounded knee when I fell. 
We went to primary school together too, but we weren't in the same class. We lost touch when we went to highschool. 
I'm wondering how he's doing. I'm waiting for his feedback. 

Spinning

I think I died today...
I went to a spinning class for the first time, along with my sister.
I am sweaty, stinky and tired, so I did a good job!

Spring

Second attempt from mother earth to kick off spring! It was a good one. We reached 22°C!

We had to move the last pieces of furniture from my grandparents' house and clean up the garden for the new owner. The weather was great to remove some plants to put in my sister's garden. Next week we will take care of the last cleaning jobs.
My grandmother moved in her new appartment. She's super happy there, so it makes it easier to cope with the big move.

Sewing Expert

My good deed of the day: learning my niece how to sew! 

We're getting creative with a bathrobe. So far, she finished putting together the hood and the side seams of the bathrobe. She's doing great!

She added a few more treatments to her portfolio, so I have to set-up new flyers and edit her website.
My brother-in-law treated me with a Spaghetti Scampi in return!

Rabbit Heart

As I told you before, I love going to our head office in The Netherlands!

There's nothing I don't like about working there so far. Great food (I will tell you about my Dutch lunches in one of my next posts) and great taste for interior design!

Every floor has its own colour and is decorated kind of homy and cozy. Wooden floor, carpet in the colour of the level you're on and windows everywhere so you can look at the green surroundings. 
Key-departments have their own space to work, but the other employees can sit everywhere they want. There are little 'phone booths' too, where you can work or phone privately, so you don't disturb your other colleagues.

I totally love this place!

The one thing I love the most about the interior is this rabbit shaped lamp! My Dutch colleagues think its horrible and one colleague even tried to convince me to just take the thing home with me. I would never steal this element from its habitat, it will come to me when it's time!

In Urgent Need for Toilet

I got home today and found a destroyed toilet paper role on our kitchen floor.
Was our little kitty in distress?
Yet again, a crazy story about our little devil. But this time, no poo was found on the floor. 

The Fast Steppers

Believe it or not, but we're a member of a hiking club. We even have a name: "De Stevige Stappers" (The Fast Steppers). We're all friends who like taking a good walk when the weather is great. So every month there's a member who plans a walking trip. Sometimes in the neighbourhood, other times a bit further from home. 
I have to admit that we only went along two times in the past 6 months, but it's our turn to plan the next trip so we're planning on joining the others on a more regular base.

It was a walk of 14km today! The weather was great and the doggy was a good boy!
It was a very nice day, with fun company and that makes up for all my sore muscles!

Shopping Sickness

I went shopping in Hasselt today.
I needed an extra pair of pants, shoes, cardigans and a blazer. 
I felt a bit under the weather today and came back home with only a new jeans. Great for my bank account! I always go shopping at Levi's for new jeans. I bought a black demi curve jeans for 80 euros. Looks great!
Now I'm feeling really sick so I'm going to bed now.

Gold Party

I'm preparing myself for a fun party. Theme: Gold!

A few friends from my hometown are throwing a birthday party. I'm excited to go, because a lot of people that I haven't seen for a while now, will be there.

I'm not putting on a crazy outfit. Just my regular clothing with some gold coloured accessories.

Sue

Thank God! There are beautiful and quiet babies in this world! Sue is the living example of this!
Sue is my hairdresser's and good friend's baby. She's 5 months old and super cute! She laughs when I say "kaka" (it means "poo" in Dutch, for my international friends) and she has smelly feet!
I tried to drop by my friend for weeks now, but I didn't had the time. It's been a while since we chatted, so I made an appointment to cut my now super long hair. It was good seeing her again and we had a fun evening with us three girls.

Finding Dory

I heard great news today!
Finding Nemo, one of my favourite Disney movies, will have a sequel! I'm super excited! 
Although I'm all grown up (I will turn 24 in May), I still like to watch animated movies.
Here's a list of my favourites:


1. Little Mermaid

This is my all time favourite! I used to sing these songs all the time and I still know the lyrics by heart. 

2. Finding Nemo

If you haven't seen this movie, you should be ashamed!

3. Nocturna

This story is about a boy that's afraid of the dark. But he's challenged to overcome his fear to find out why the stars start going out at night.

4. Shrek

I still laugh with every joke in this movie!

5. How to Train Your Dragon

I saw this movie not so long ago and found it quite funny how the dragon looked just like our kitty when you looked at its behaviour and facial expressions.

Bongo Boutique Magazines

I just redeemed my Bongo voucher for a magazine subscription. I chose 5 editions of 'Knipmode', a Dutch magazine for crafty crafters like me. Five months of new summer patterns and styles to make. I will not be bored!
