New Year's Resolution

Hi my dear (zero) followers,

Shame on me! I have neglected my blog!  BUT, I have been thinking about it... That counts for something, right?

So, 2013 is coming up. Like every year, time to think about what new year's resolutions I fulfilled over these last few years. Almost NONE!
"Eat less sugar", "Don't always express your opinion", "Care less about what other people think",... That last one turned out alright, so my new opinion is that OTHER people shouldn't care about my opinion :-) AND my ass grew even bigger this year, so there's that about my new year's resolutions...

As I was saying, I started to think about my past goals and, obviously, I always come up with things I can not accomplish. So I thought about why I started this blog in the first place: To become more positive and appreciate the small things in life, step out of the comfort zone.

As of January 1st, 2013, I will be challenging myself with... "My little 2013", a lovely little blog post every day.
As I walk around whole day, there are always little things that make me smile, so why not post this to share with other people?

So follow me and step into my little adventure!
Let the countdown begin! 4 days to my first post!

We will share a cookie and be friends forever..

Hi everyone,

It's been a while, I know...
I've had some busy weeks with some work and personal stuff I had to take care of. Things that didn't always bright my day, but yesterday and today I had two nice evenings with some old classmates. Great to talk about how life changed over the years.
Quite interesting actually, how you can totally outgrow each other, but still have a great laugh, years later. I always say: "Nothing is forever". But I would like to think that when I will meet these people 20 years from now, I will still have a great talk with them.

New Season

Yes!
I'm having a busy week! All my favourite series' new seasons started this week.
I am watching the following shows, the ones that you probably all know... If you don't, start watching them! They're great!

New Girl
One of my top favourites! So funny, every time! When I feel a bit down, I just watch an episode with Jess.

Grey's Anatomy
What's not to like?
Drama everywhere, every time.
Makes me cry, every time!
Seriously? Seriously!
Castle
Exciting and funny at the same time. I love it!
The Mentalist
Patrick still hasn't found Red John! Thrilling!
Last season was a little boring though. Hope they will stir it up a little...
Some other shows I love(d) to watch:
  • Alcatraz
Cancelled for the second season. Pitty! I would like to know what happens next!
  • Pan Am
    Totally retro!
  • Lost
Many people found it boring after one season, but I kept watching. The climax was a bit obvious maybe, but my patience was worth it!
  • Code 37
A Belgian show. It's about a cop who's mom was raped and killed when she was a child. Obviously, she will start an investigation to find her mom's killer. Season 3 is starting now. Sounds like a 'Castle'-story, but it's far from one! This show is more rough and Belgian-like...
  • Band of Brothers
One to watch! Very emotional, especially when your grandparents told you lots of stories about the war. When you watch it, it's like you're in the middle of it.
  • Modern Family
How could I forget! It's like looking in a mirror with the whole family.
And many, many more!
Have fun watching!

One Step Closer

Today, one of my biggest dreams came true. Not completely, but half of it..

I touched a puma cub today! I only pet the animal, I didn't hold it or anything, but it's one step closer to fulfil my dream to cuddle a big cat. Thailand, just 5 months away from the tigers!

DIL

Hi folks,

Every Wednesday, I go to my fashion evening classes. I'm learning how to sew my own clothes, how to repair accidents, ...

At the beginning I felt like a real fashion designer. I was going to make the coolest outfits!
I started out with a high waist skirt and was so disappointed afterwards! My skirt was perfectly sewed, but I thought it looked awful on me (I have fatty knees)!
My first year I made some things that were quite OK, to start out, learning the tricks.
My second year was terrible! Because I moved to another town, it was easier to also switch schools. How I hate myself for doing that! That year I learned absolutely nothing. Because of the increased popularity of DIY, the classes became bigger and so did the waiting time! Once I had to wait for my teacher for over an hour, until she was done with helping another student! That year, I made two awful cowboy shirts, a lace detailed T-shirt, two trousers and a jumpsuit. All pieces I don't wear, because they don't fit well. It's easy to choose a pattern from a magazine like Burda, but it always has to be adjusted to your size and shape. Apparently something where my teacher is not good at. It cost me a lot of money if you look at it now!

I started my third year a few weeks ago. Again, our class grew bigger. There are not enough desks if everyone is present, waiting time is still increasing.
However, my skills are improving. I'm trying to sew as much as I can on my own if I have to wait too long.
I'm now making a waistcoat for myself to wear with a T-shirt, and I am quite satisfied about how it's evolving. I hope it will turn out alright, so I can finally wear my own designs.

Last Day of Vacation

Haaa, Sundays... Still in bed, watching New Girl.
Love this series! I actually look a lot like Jess. I love singing my sentences and I cannot pronounce words that have to do with seeechs (s*x). People think I'm weird sometimes, but I don't mind. I am me the way I am :-) and that's fine by me and Jess.

Also check out Zooey's lady-website, 'Hello Giggles'!
I recently discovered this website and it puts a smile on my face every time.

I'm crawling out of bed now.
Peace out!

Fresh Catch

Hi there,

I'm enjoying my leave of work this week!
Staying at home with the kitty, watching movies, sleep 'till noon, ... What a life! But not for long... Monday, it's back to my desk!

My week was very calm. We were like a boring old couple. You will think this for sure if you see my newest catch!
My parents-in-law gave me a crockery set, what was once from their grandparents. Only used a couple of times! Looks like brand new!
A porcelain set with roses and as finishing touch, golden borders and some gold ornaments.
Doesn't my new set look ADORABLE?
Now I will love my tea-time even more!

Crazy Days at Work

I worked my ass off at work these few weeks! I even worked for 11 hours straight last Thursday.
Still three days left of heavy lifting and then, FINALLY, a well-deserved break!
This is my first job. I began working here right after school, so I didn’t have the time to take some leave for over a year! Now my time has come and I am really looking forward to lying in bed all morning, playing with the kitty, going shopping,... Hakuna Matata!

Not going abroad, you ask? Well, not this time. My boyfriend had a knee surgery a few weeks ago and is still not fully recovered. He cannot make long walks or stand up straight for a long period of time, so we have decided to stay home with the kitty cat this time. But, as I told you in my blog last week, we have Thailand to look forward to! We will plan our trip more concrete during our little week of ‘vacation’.

Back to my pile of work!

Planning my first trip outside of Europe

I’m so excited, because I am planning my first big trip.
I have done some trips before, but always within Europe. I have been to Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, … This time I want to explore another continent.

My dream destination is Australia, but this is a really expensive trip. I am prepared to put this dream aside for a while and start with a destination that’s a liiittle less expensive, but still on my very long TO DO list. Thailand was my second best choice and I am really looking forward to it. The land of smiles is quite cheap for such a tropical destination and therefore a perfect trial-trip.
I am not a girl-‘backpacking’-scout and I have the biggest arachnophobia you have ever seen, so this is all new to me. I dream about the places I will visit, the food I will eat, the people I’ll meet, but there are fears and other things I need to overcome! But I want to accept this personal challenge and I am (almost) sure I will be fine back there. I love Asian food, I love smiley people, so what on earth can possibly go wrong besides wiping my ass with the wrong hand?
A friend on Facebook (who’s not your friend on Facebook?) recently went to Thailand and came back with amazing pictures and stories about elephants, friendly people, great food and panoramic views.
My choice for this country became more obvious and I immediately started looking up some information. I went to the library and got me some travel guides.
I am currently listing our sightseeing stops, then I will plan a route and the final step… Booking! We’re hoping to take flight somewhere about March 2013.
TOP STOPS
  1. Tiger Kingdom
A bit controversial. Meany people who have been here were not so sure if the tigers were fully conscious. Whispers are going around that they’re drugged, but I have to go there! I have to see this with my own eyes to have an opinion.
My biggest wish before I die is to have pet a big kitty (not a fat one, but a REAL big one. A tiger for example), so this is my chance..

  2. Island hopping
White beaches, blue lagoons, waterfalls, …
I allow myself a little bit of de-stress time at the end of my backpack adventure and before I start working again.

  3. Chiang Mai Evening Market
Lots and lots of food and lots of souvenirs for friends, family and myself.

New blog in town: Out of the comfort zone and exploring my short life

I woke up one day and thought, why not start a blog?
Yet another blog, you think. Well, I don’t care. The reason I want to write is the following:

I have to start enjoying life. It’s too short. This year, four people in my direct environment died, three in one month. My grandpa, two friends and the sister of a really good friend left a lot of people behind. I didn’t know some of these people very well, but they all left a great impression on me. I could have learned so much from them. How they lived their lives, how they were looking at life, what they still wanted to do, …
This all really gave me a scare and it took me a while to get my head around things and overcome the loss of my grandfather. After a pause of a couple of years I started writing in my diary again. All my darkest thoughts bundled together. Of course these are private conversations with myself, but sometimes there are things I want to shout out to the world. Sometimes these are big things. But most of the time I walk around and see little things that make me soooo happy, but I don’t want to bother other people with my story. Like when I ate the last piece of cake or see a kitty safely crossing the street.  That’s why I came up with the idea to start a blog. To remind myself that everyday people, animals or other things can make my shitty day a whole lot better.
I want to try new things, step out of my comfort and moody zone and tell the world my ‘adventures’ and my opinions online. I want to share the food I eat, the trips I make, the pain I hate, the dress I would really really want to wear but make my knees look fat. I want to tell you the things I live up to, my disappointments, things I look forward to, ...

I am a very negative person (ask my boyfriend) and I am really moody in the morning, so sometimes there will be posts where the sunshine is far gone. So my challenge is to find the silver lining in my day with this blog. Hope you join me too..
